 Islington is strongly associated with New Labour middle class, being the former home of Tony Blair. The borough now contains some of the nation's most expensive real estate, with Clerkenwell theoretically usurping Mayfair on the Monopoly board. There remains, however a strong cosmopolitan feel, and a large ethnic population. 'The Angel' is home to the relocated and popular 'the blue note' club and also Upper Street which houses many excellent bars, shops and restaurants along with Essex Road whose selection is a bit more spread out. Rents are fairly high but it's still possible to bag a bargain and easy access to the City, East end, central London and the attractive canals is a real plus.
