Fast becoming the cultural centre of London, Southwark is home to the impressive new Tate Gallery of modern art, and the Lord Mayor's headquarters on the Thames next to Tower Bridge. Also worth a mention is the Borough Market which is located near London Bridge Station. The former warehouses of Borough and Bermondsey are being converted into lofts and studios by city professionals, artists, photographers and people running small high tech businesses. The region has benefited enormously from the new Jubilee line extension which puts the West End within ten minutes travel time. Around Waterloo station is The Royal Festival Hall which is always an interesting place to wander around with various free exhibits and performances, the National Film Theatre and the engineering feat of the London Eye are also close by so plenty to keep you busy.
